6 Reasons Why Baby Yoda is the G.O.A.T.
Posted by Justin Grainger on
Sure, being the Greatest of All Time in the Star Wars universe is no small feat. You’ve got to compete with the likes of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Rey, and the entire Skywalker clan. But the new Disney+ series the Mandalorian has us convinced. There’s a new G.O.A.T. in town and he is rivaling even C3PO and R2-D2 for our undying love.
Note: minor spoilers for the first three episodes of The Mandalorian ahead.
He Has the Force
The force isn’t used on just any old day in the Star Wars universe. Jedis, Sith Lords, and force sensitives wield it sparingly - and no one demonstrates that better than Baby Yoda. Maybe it’s because he’s a baby and he’s still discovering his force powers. Maybe he is just already so wise that he knows to save his force wielding for only the most desperate of situations. Either way, the force is strong with Baby Yoda and we can’t wait to see more.
He is Nonverbal
Baby Yoda doesn’t need words to communicate. It’s all in those large doe eyes that are clearly breaking the Mandalorian’s heart (in addition to the hearts of every viewer at home). Baby Yoda can inspire the Mandalorian to change his ways just by looking at him. We can assume that Baby Yoda will learn to talk at some point, but we’re in no hurry.
He is Rare
We’ve only ever seen this species before twice: Yoda, obviously, and Yaddle - the female Jedi who appeared on the council in The Phantom Menace. The rarity of these characters makes us even more sure greatness is being bestowed upon us in the form of Baby Yoda.
He Makes Us Nostalgic
Baby Yoda makes us nostalgic for the original trilogy and yes, we’ll say it, even the prequels. We’ll even rewatch all six seasons of the Clone Wars just to get a little more of Yoda Sr. in our lives. Yes, we know it’s probably unlikely Baby Yoda and Yoda are related - but it’s still fun to say Yoda Sr.! Baby Yoda doesn’t just stir up our Star Wars memories. He also bears an odd resemblance to Gizmo from Gremlins.
He’s a 50 Year Old Baby
Seriously, think about it: a baby that’s fifty years old. This fun fact we’ll file away for future trivia nights isn’t just mind-blowing, it’s funny. We hope there will be many more Internet memes or even in-show jokes about Old Baby Yoda.
He Has a Floating Crib
What baby doesn’t want a crib that floats? Baby Yoda’s egg-shaped bassinet is sleek and apparently needs no fuel to function. It also appears to go wherever Baby Yoda wants it to go, or just cruises along silently by the Mandalorian’s side. Move over, Millennium Falcon. We just might have a new favorite vehicle in a galaxy far, far away.
