How to Prepare for The Rise of Skywalker

If you are like us you’re anxiously awaiting the release of the ninth and final film in the core Star Wars series. It’s bittersweet: the culmination of a landmark pop culture event that has spanned over forty years, and the end of an era. There will never be another Skywalker major motion picture release - at least, not one that draws so heavily from and builds on the original story first introduced in A New Hope. Whether you plan to go see the movie on opening night or wait and watch it in the comfort of your own home, we’ve got some ideas on how you can make this event extra special.

Rewatch: It’s Marathon Time!

The release of the Disney+ streaming service coincides nicely with this one. If you had been putting off a Star Wars marathon because you didn’t want to shell out all the cash for the full set, now you have no excuse. All eight movies of the core set (as well as the various spinoffs) are available for free if you’ve got a Disney+ membership. If you haven’t got the time for a full rewatch including the prequels, we recommend watching The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. These two movies directly precede The Rise of Skywalker in the Star Wars timeline, and will get you up to speed nicely.

Get Decked Out

We know you don’t want to wait until next Halloween to dress up as your favorite Star Wars character. Whether you’re a Chewie, a Kylo, or a Rey, the release of the ninth movie is the perfect opportunity to add a new costume to your collection. We’ve got just about every character in multiple styles for Star Wars Kids and Star Wars Adults readily available in our online store.

Brush Up On Your History

Even if you’re watching all eight films in advance of the premiere, it’s a good idea to read up, watch up, or listen up on your Star Wars history. There are literally infinity wikis, websites, YouTube videos, and podcasts to help you on your way. You could even start by checking out our other Star Wars themed blog posts here and here.

Pick a Side and Place Your Bets

Light Side or Dark Side? Who do you think will come out on top when the dust has settled? Whether you’re a super fan of the Resistance or putting money on the First Order to bring home all the galactic bacon, adding a little friendly household competition will make watching the movie that much more fun.

Commemorate the Occasion

This is a once in a lifetime event. If you have kids, consider bringing them to the theater to see the movie. Or, if you’re planning to watch it with them at home after it is released on Disney+, you can still do something special like dress up in costumes or make Star Wars themed decorations for your living room. Adding details and routines like this increases your kids’ ability to remember the experience more vividly in the future.
